Attorney General Buddy Caldwell announces the 288th arrest by his Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Lead by Commander John Bosco, the unit arrested Alvin Zanders on January 7, 2010 for the Billings, Montana Police Department. The Yellowstone County District Attorney contacted the Louisiana Attorney General’s office requesting our agency’s help.
Zanders is a material witness in a triple homicide in Billings. The trial is scheduled to start this month and they had been unable to locate him for a statement or for process (he is not a suspect). The Billings Police Department suspected Zanders was in Tangipahoa Parish, but did not know where. The FAU located him in Hammond, and with the assistance of the Hammond Police Department, arrested Zanders on the material witness warrant.
In an unrelated case, the Fugitive Apprehension Unit received a request from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office asking if we could help them locate Nathaniel Gaten, who was wanted for aggravated incest. Jefferson Parish said Gaten had been on the run for a little over two months. Bosco located Gaten in Houston, Texas. “We then contacted the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit,” said Commander Bosco.
“The Texas FAU arrested Gaten for us the morning of January 15, 2010 at his residence, 10555 Spice Lane #1002, Houston.” Gaten has signed a waiver of extradition. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the extradition. They have fourteen days to pick up Gaten.
The Fugitive Apprehension Unit was started by Attorney General Buddy Caldwell in May of 2008. It’s designed to help not only the Louisiana Department of Justice locate fugitives but other law enforcement agencies throughout Louisiana and the nation. Law enforcement is encouraged to contact John Bosco with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit at 225-326-6100 if they need assistance.
