AG's Office and HUD Host Fair Housing Training

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office hosted and helped to coordinate a two-day fair housing seminar on January 13 and 14. The seminar was presented by Willow Wilson, the New Orleans Housing and Urban Development Fair Housing Director. The seminar was held at the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office in Baton Rouge. Among the 200 attending the seminar were landlords, tenants and housing authority representatives from across the state. The training addressed federal and state Fair Housing Laws, Protected Classes, Prohibited Practices, Reasonable Accommodations and Reasonable Modifications.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office is charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing the Louisiana Equal Housing Opportunity Act, which protects individuals against housing discrimination. This Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and handicap.

If you believe you have been the victim of fair housing discrimination, please contact the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office Equal Housing Section at 800-273-5718.
